Remodeling FAQ's

We have the answers!

  • What types of remodeling services provide the most value for a home?

As of 2021, the top remodeling services that will add the most values to your homes are:

    - Adding manufactured stone veneer to the exterior of your home.

    - Garage door replacement.

    - Minor mid-range kitchen remodel.

    - Fiber cement siding.

    - Vinyl siding.

    - Vinyl window replacement.

    - Wooden deck addition.

    - Wooden window replacement.

    - Steel door replacement.

    - Composite deck addition.

  • Do I need an architect for my remodel?

Whether or not an architect is needed for a home remodeling project is dependent upon the scope of the project.  Larger remodel projects will most likely require an architect.

  • What is the process for a remodel?

    1. Planning and design with the client, the permit process.

    2. Demo, this can include simply moving furniture or go all the way into tearing out existing walls depending on the scope of the remodel.

    3. Framing, this again largely depends on the scope of the remodel.

    4. Mechanicals/Electrical/Plumbing/HVAC, this step runs concurrently with the rebuilding and framing as these elements need to go inside walls.

    5. Walls, once the framing is completed and all mechanicals are installed, walls go up. Then comes drywall and painting.

    6. Flooring, depending on the scope of the work we can install flooring after the painting is finished and we will discuss with the client to make sure flooring goes in at the right stage of their remodel.

    7. Cabinets, anything permanent goes in at this stage.

    8. Appliances, now the appliances and mechanicals go in, the home will be fully functional at this point but the remodel is not complete.

    9. Details, furniture, accessories. This is when the remodel visually pays off. The finishing details are completed and you get to enjoy your new living space.

  • Is it cheaper to build or remodel a house?

New Home Source says, "Poulos says renovating is usually more affordable, in part because the permitting process may be cheaper and faster.

Faccone also votes for rehabbing, especially if you can do some of the work yourself to lower the cost.

Anderson says remodeling makes sense if a few low-cost projects will create the home you want. Otherwise, he believes building a new home could be cheaper.

“Remodeling is a facelift,” Anderson says. “It can make one area nice, but may not make the house what you really want. In the long run, remodeling can be the more expensive option.”

Since there’s no way to make a true apples-to-apples comparison, you’ll need to research both options, think carefully about your needs and wants, and then try to make the best of whichever option you choose.

Either way, your new home should be a huge improvement."
